About The Author

Hi! On the internet I am going to go by CCHS. I am currently a rising high school senior (2027), and I have several cross country and track accomplishments. I am a STEM researcher and aspiring biochemist and I plan to work in the biopharmaceutical field.

I was originally drawn to the problem of low Iron and low Ferritin by living through some obvious performance drops. I learned of the condition of Non-Anemic Iron Deficiency (NAID) while looking at low hematocrit anemia. Seeing variable Ferritin in my teammates too, I knew this was not just a made-up story. The lab results were real.  So I delved deep into the current scientific knowledge about iron metabolism hoping to fix the problem with only limited time to do so. This is a 2 year long explanation of that quest, complete with the discussion of failures and step-by-step understandings that I developed along the way.

This book should be an interesting companion to any endurance athlete going through iron rehabilitation. It is designed to be a help to any person who wants to see a more complete picture of the science behind iron, it’s metabolism, and blood-making itself— from supernovae, to early life, historic red blood cell discoveries, iron pharmaceuticals, and my mitochondrial rehab. Enjoy!
